Non-Fiction

We have been working on components of non-fiction and examining a variety of factual texts. See if we can tell you about some of the parts we have learned. We have been on searches for these components during our own reading and have been able to identify some of these parts in our bat book clubs. It has been fun to see many of us selecting just-right non-fiction texts and exploring our interests. Now that we have a stronger grasp on what makes up a non-fiction text we will also work on sorting & comparing fiction vs. non-fiction books and identifying the main idea in Non-Fiction pieces. As adults, we spend a majority of reading focused on non-fiction texts: books, newspapers, magazines, how-to guides. It is important to develop the skills necessary to understand how to navigate and comprehend these texts. Check out WE GIVE BOOKS or the Tumblebooks link on our school's main webpage for some online non-fiction texts for your child's nightly reading!
See if they can identify any of these components in their own reading!
