Addition fluency

We have been working hard to learn our addition facts. It is important to develop number "fluency" in order to strengthen higher- order thinking skills in math. Being fluent in our facts helps us not get stuck on simple computation and develop confidence in basic problems. We will be doing weekly "mad minute" sheets and working on learning facts 0-10 more securely. I am not a huge fan of timed tests and use them only to set individual learning goals for each students needs. Once they have mastered a set they will work on a new sequence of problems. For example: Next week we will all be focusing on +0 facts. Once your child shows comfort and fluency with these facts we will build on and work on +1 facts. We will also revisit facts to help retain facts. Here are some links that may be helpful practice for your child. Please start to work on +0 facts for this next week. Our "official" mad minutes will take place each Friday with lots of practice through games and interactive learning throughout the week. Thank you for your help at home!
** Note: I am blown away...We are all masters in +0 facts! We are proud of ourselves! Please focus on +1 & +2 facts. Your child is bringing home their "mad minute" in their APE book for you to see.
