Math Rotations

We have been engaged in Math Rotations for the past few weeks....so far, so good! There are 4 stations that we try to rotate through daily. Sometimes we start with whole group instruction based on a skill that we will later practice. Other times we jump right in and get to work! We are finding that work stations are great for reinforcing skills that we typically don't get to spend a lot of time on in our curriculum and helps us differentiate for a wide range of needs so that we all become stronger in our own way.

Math Facts- Typically we log onto Frontrowed or Xtramath to work on problems at our own level or fact fluency. We just started using Splash math more often, which reinforces 1st/2nd grade concepts. You can work on these at home too! If you need a password reminder, shoot me an email anytime!

At Your Seat- During this time we work independently to reinforce skills we have learned through our own work time. We are good about supporting each other during this time so that teachers can check in with groups and focus on the teachers' table.

Teacher's Choice- Typically this is a small group activity involving slates or hands on materials to help us learn new concepts and dig deeper into our learning. This is a great time for teachers to check in with each student and informally assess what each child has mastered and what they need next. During this time we have spent a lot of time working on problem solving- learning how to solve problems in multiple ways, show and explain our thinking in pictures and words and persevere through challenges!

Hands On- Hands on is one of our favorites! During this time we work together in small group, partnerships and sometimes independently in games and hands on activities to reinforce fact fluency, build numeracy and a stronger number sense.
