Exploring Chess

Mrs. McConnell has been very generous to spend some time with us during Monday morning recess to teach us the basics of chess. I am learning a lot too! I was surprised that the whole class wanted to sign up to learn-- Impressive. We had a small group our first session which was perfect to learn. We learned about the most difficult piece to control--the Pawn. We learned how to set up the Pawns and how they could be moved to capture pieces. Chess teaches important skills of focus, thinking ahead and in more abstract ways. I am excited for our next session!
