Election & Symbols of America

Our symbols of America mini unit fit in perfectly with Veterans Day and the election! We learned about important symbols and places like the Whitehouse, Washington Monument, Statue of Liberty and the flag. Ask us to tell you about a few of them... I learned some new things too!

Did you know the turkey almost became the national bird of the US instead of the eagle or that the blue on the flag represents vigilance, perseverance and justice? We worked collaboratively to replicate the American Flag- the only guidelines were that we needed to research the flag and figure out what components were needed! It was neat to see everyone work together, divide tasks and express their own thoughts and ideas! It was a very productive, busy environment!

We had fun learning a bit about the candidates and casting our own vote. We brainstormed  a list of things we would do to make our country a better place. We have a very caring  bunch! We also took the opportunity to talk about kindness and respecting different points of view.   Check out our display in the case in the lobby!

I think we could learn a lot from kid president... check out the video with your child!

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. Thank you to all those who have served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice!
