Pet Book Clubs

We have been working on interest based book clubs about the wild side of pets. We have loved the structure of book clubs and enjoy engaging in talk about animals--second graders LOVE non-fiction! We have focused on asking questions and learning new interesting information about the wild side of pets like cats, dogs, birds and snakes. These books give a glimpse into pet care as well as information about close relatives that live in the wild. We are starting to make connections into the close link that both pets & wild animals share, as well as making connections between each others focus animal.

Since we will begin our study of bats soon we are wrapping up these groups. We have begun to learn about the components of non-fiction and learned that non-fiction can be read out of order. Although we will not get through the entire book,  we have each picked a topic from the contents to spend our time focusing on. Extra copies will be kept in our classroom library if we are interested to learn more about our pet or start an independent study on a new pet.
Ask us what about the wild side of our pet!
