Welcome Back!
We are back in action in 2Y after a long vacation! This week we have been getting back into our routines and setting new goals for the new year! We wrapped up a few units and are off to a fresh start this week! Here is a peek at what is to come in the next few weeks.
Reading- Series books- Understanding characters in these types of texts and components that make up fiction. We will spend time reading series books in partnerships, book clubs and independently. We are also starting a read-a-loud together. Ask us about it!
Writing- Opinion/persuasive writing- Difference between fact/opinion, respecting different points of view. Persuading others-backing up our opinions with examples and reasons to inform our readers.
Math- Revisiting new concepts of money: Dollars and cents notation, writing amounts in number and written form, giving change. Graphing: reading, understanding & graphing data. Continuing to work on more in-depth word problems: Read, Draw, Solve & explain! We will take our trimester 2 assessment "smarty zone" at the end of next week!
Science: Rocks and minerals/ Geology: Understanding what the Earth is made of, how the Earth has changed over time.
Looking forward to more learning and growing in 2014 with this group!
Just a reminder- Ms. Monteiro will be completing her first "solo" week this Wednesday-Tuesday! She is excited to implement the writing unit she has planned- Your kids are in for a lot of fun!
