We
have been having so much fun with our Jan Brett author study! We have been
reading lots of Jan Brett books and using them to learn about the writing
process that all authors go through. After we read a number of her books and
discussed the different story elements that each included, we began creating
our own stories. We started by first creating a detailed and dynamic character
that our story would be about. Then, we each dreamed up and drew a setting
where our story would take place. Once we got those two steps down, the writing
began. Each child worked hard to start their story off with an exciting hook
that would grab the readerās attention, just like Jan Brettās books grab our
attention. Students also did a great job including a problem and solution in
their story, making them all very interesting and unique. Ask your child to
tell you about their fictional story. They are all wonderful and detailed!!
Throughout
the remainder of our Jan Brett author study we will continue to solidify our
understandings of the elements of a story and will work on writing more
fictional, āedge of your seatā stories.
